On 23 May in Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University known linguist, professor of Columbia University (USA), Yuri Shevchuk gave a lecture "Language and War" for students and pedagogical staff of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, which revealed in details the historical forms of assimilation pressure; expressed views on so called policy of mix "language with the tongue"; analyzed the use of Ukrainian and Russian languages in the media; stressed that the linguistic situation caused by political, economic and cultural transformations in society.

Students and professors had the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion devoted to the language issue in modern Ukraine.

May 16, 2017 to Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University visited Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Korea in Ukraine Lee Yang-Goo, Director of the Korean Education Center in Ukraine Yu Sang-Bom and Secretary of the Embassy Kateryna Chorna.
Viktor Ogneviuk, Rector of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University greeted the guests and students’ community. After the welcoming speech Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Korea in Ukraine Lee Yang-Goo gave a lecture about the three miracles of Korea, national values and spiritual ideals strategy of cooperation between our countries well as the need of development of human capital.
After the lecture, students had the opportunity to ask questions of diplomatic experience of Ambassador and learn the secrets of the success of the Republic of Korea.

 

Guest lecture of Attaché of university and scientific cooperation of French Embassy Sylvain Rihole

On 15th May within the framework of the Festival of Science held a guest lecture by Attaché of university and scientific cooperation French Embassy Sylvain Rihole on “Challenges of contemporary youth of France”, which is dedicated to the celebration of “Europe Day” in Ukraine.
French speaking students of the Institute of Philology and the Faculty of Law and International Relations actively asked questions and participated in a discussion. The question concerned the political structure of the country, the possibility of study Ukrainian students at universities in France and French youth position in life of their country.

 

Meeting with educational experts from Finland

In the framework of the joint Ukrainian-Finnish cooperation in the implementation of the project of the New Ukrainian School at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University was held a working meeting with experts from Finland.

The meeting was attended by Viktor Ogneviuk, Rector of the University; Oleksii Zhyltsov, Vice-Rector on Academic Affairs; Kirsi Lindroos, educational expert, a specialist in the development of education, director of the International Department of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland; Raisa Venäläinen, education expert, teacher of lifelong education, specialist on policy of international cooperation; Lyudmila Khoruzha, Head of Chair of Education of Pedagogical Institute; Valentyna Jakuba, Head of Chair of English Philology and Translation of Institute of Philology; Olha Vyhovska, Head of SRL of internationalization of higher education; Gennadiy Bondarenko, assistant professor Chair of Elementary Education of Pedagogical Institute; Serhiy Shkapko, an employee of the International Cooperation and European Integration Departmnet of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

During the working meeting were discussed the main components of the future model of teacher training, which will be presented to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for inclusion in the draft strategy of New Ukrainian School and will be approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland to obtain future financial support for the project.

Open lecture of director of European programs of the American Studies Foundation Matthew Kwasiborski

On April 28th director of European programs of the American Studies “The Fund for the American Studies” (USA), member of the board of trustees of Anglo-American University in Prague, the founder of the Lviv Academy of Leadership, a member of the Board of Directors “Free Ukraine” Matthew Kwasiborski had an open lecture for students and pedagogical stuff of Faculty of Law and International Relations and the Institute of Philology of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University on “President Trump and Leadership: What We Have Learned in the Early Days of His Administration”.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Law and International Relations, Chair of Romance Philology and Comparative-typological Linguistics Institute of Philology, SRL of internationalization of higher education.

 

Scientific training of pedagogical stuff of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University within the program Erasmus + in Greece

Within the program Erasmus + with National and Kapodistrian University of Athens lecturers of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University: MykhailoVideyko, Head of Research Laboratory of Archeology and Sergiy Golovanov, Associate Professor of the Chair of World History Faculty History and Philosophy had the opportunity to participate in scientific training at partner university during the period from 24.04 to 30.04.2017 year.

During the week-long scientific training Mykhailo Videyko gave lectures to students of prehistory and archeology of Greek university, worked on materials in academic libraries and attended the conference of local researches of antiquities and cultural heritage guards.

While the program of academic mobility Sergiy Golovanov had analyzed of pedagogical experience of the Department of Archeology and History, and had teaching practice.

Students and teachers of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens gladly listened to lectures by M. Videyko and S. Golovanov, deepening their knowledge about the history of Ukraine. Within one week stay in Greece, our university colleagues also acquainted with the organizational structure of the foreign university and established a lot of scientific contacts.

On the initiative of Head of the Chair of Romance Philology – Rusudan Makhachashvili, Professor of the Chair – Salvatore Del Gaudio and supported by the SRL of Internationalization of higher education, for students of specialty "Philology (Italian Language and Literature)" was organized guest lectures by Professor of the University of Genoa Laura Salmon. Series of lectures was devoted to theory and practice of Italian-Ukrainian translation and urgent problems in the practice of Italian language translation.
Professor Laura Salmon is a world-renowned expert on the theory of translation, the author of numerous fundamental researches, scientific and educational works. At lectures and workshops students and pedagogical staff of the Institute of Philology had the opportunity to study a generative model of translation and numerous examples of unique translation solutions:
• Theoretical questions of translation Slavic language texts in Italian.
• Onomastics and its translation in Italian.
• Examples of translation realities Slavic language in Italian.
• Translation of proper names in Italian.
• Workshop of translation in Italian.
Unique lectures united future professionals, teachers of the Institute of Philology and invited experts of translation.
