Visit to Heidelberg University of Education

On the 10-15th July 2011 the delegation of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University headed by Rector Victor Ognevyuk visited Heidelberg University of Education (Germany).

The German city Heidelberg is famous not only for its picturesque landscapes, but also for having the oldest university in Germany – Ruprecht-Karl Heidelberg University that was founded in 1386.

During the visit delegation members participated in an international conference “Facilities and demands for inclusive education”. The conference speakers were:

  • Prof. Dr. Anneliese Wellensiek, Rector of Heidelberg University of Education
  • Prof. Victor Ognevyuk, Rector of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University
  • Prof. Dr. Karl Holtz, Heidelberg University of Education
  • Prof. Dr. Anne Sliwka, Vice-rector on international development and academic research of Heidelberg University of Education
  • Docent Svitlana Kalashnikova, Vice-rector on innovative development of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University
  • Henrike Schon, Head of International relations department of Heidelberg University of Education
  • Prof. Dr. Theo Klauss, Heidelberg University of Education
  • Prof. Olga Bezpalko, Director of Institute of Psychology and Social Pedagogy in Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University
  • Natalia Sofiy, junior research specialist of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Head of Ukrainian Step by Step Foundation
  • Anna Gavryliuk, junior research specialist of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University
  • Sylvia Selke, Heidelberg University of Education

During the visit the delegation from Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University was introduced to the activity of Heidelberg University of Education, conducted meetings with the University heads, researchers and students, and visited:

  • Consulting bureau on inclusion
  • Center of competence education
  • Seminar “Teaching and Learning Together – Path to Inclusion”
  • A secondary school with inclusive classes
  • Research labs.

An important result of the visit became the signature of the Strategic collaboration agreement between Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and Heidelberg University of Education, according to which the following is planned:

  • Opening creative groups of university lecturers for developing inclusive education courses and their implementation into bachelor and master curriculums.
  • Internships for university students and staff.
  • Joint academic research and publications.
  • Matching curriculum for implementing joint diplomas on such majors: preschool education, primary education, special education.
  • Preparing a textbook on inclusive education for pedagogical majors.
