The 3rd International Congress on Special Education, Psychology and Rehabilitation "Inclusion in the New Ukrainian School: Challenges of the Present" took place on November 10, 2017.

Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and the Institute of Special Pedagogics of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine co-organized this Congress uniting more than 600 educators from different regions of Ukraine, as well as representatives from Poland, Slovakia, Italy and Canada.

The participants were addressed with the opening addresses by:

  • Marina Poroshenko, Head of the Poroshenko Charitable Foundation;
  • Vasyl Kremen, President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Victor Ognevyuk, Rector of the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Doctor of Philosophy Science, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Vyacheslav Zasenko, Director of the Institute of Special Pedagogics of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Pavlo Hobzey, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Roman Petryshin, Professor at University of Grant McEwan, PhD in Sociology (Canada);
  • Yuri Konkin, Director of the Ukrainian Resources and Development Center at the University of Grant McEwan (Canada);
  • Irina Chepchina, Chairman of the Central Board of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf.

The plenary heard reports by the following leading scientists and practitioners:

  • Alla Kolupayeva, Deputy Director for Scientific Issues of the Institute of Special Pedagogics of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine reported on the topic: "Methodological and strategic dimensions of education for children with special needs in the light of educational reform";
  • Tim Lorman, President of Concordia University, Doctor of Pedagogy Sciences, Professor (Canada) presented a report entitled "Canada-Ukraine Partnership: Inclusive Values Implementation";
  • Marianne Onufrik, Head of the National Office for the Reintegration of Deinstitutionalization under the Commissioner of Ukraine for the Rights of the Child, PhD in economic sciences, with a report entitled "Reforming the institutional care and upbringing of children in Ukraine";
  • Tetyana Symonenko, Head of the Department of Education for Special Needs of the Department of General and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, on the topic: "Modern legislation for children with special educational needs education";
  • Olena Martynchuk, Head of the Department of Special Psychology, Correctional and Inclusive Education at the Institute of Human at the Boris Grinchenko Kyiv University, PhD in pedagogical sciences, assistant professor reported on "New approaches to the training of special educators in the context of social inclusive model in education";
  • Yuliya Dmitrieva-Zarudenko, Chief Specialist of the Department of Inclusive Education and Inclusive-Resource Centers at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, reported on the topic: "Organizational and legal basis of inclusive education and inclusive and resource centers activities";
  • Danuta Al-Khamisi, PhD, Associate Professor at the Pedagogical Therapy Department of the Warsaw Academy of Special Pedagogics named after Maria Gzhezogozhevskaya, (Republic of Poland), with the topic: "Implementation of inclusive education in the Polish educational system";
  • Natalya Slobodyanyuk, Director of the Bela Tserkva School of Secondary Education I-III degrees № 15 and Children and Youth Sports and Recreation Club" of the Bila Tserkva City Council in Kyiv Region with the topic: "Inclusive School: Experience and Perspectives of Functioning".

 

The congress participants took part in two streams of master classes, presentations, trainings and workshops including:

 

Workshop for psychologists, educators and parents of children with hyperactivity "Neuropsychological correction of 5-7-year-old children behavior with hyperactivity and attention deficit".

Workshop for teachers, correctional educators, psychologists of special and general educational institutions, which involve the teaching of children with intellectual disabilities "The Creativity Alphabet for Children with Special Educational Needs".

Interactive presentation for educators working in inclusive education "Organizational and methodological conditions of activity of teacher's assistant in the inclusive class".

Master class for everyone to discover the world of sign language communication in "Let's explore the Ukrainian sign language together!"

Master class for Primary School Teachers "Activating the speech activity of the child in the sensory-cognitive space of inclusive education"

Master class for teachers, speech therapists, defectologists, elementary school teachers "Organization and methods for younger students healthcare in inclusive environment".

Master class for educational institutions directors, practical psychologists, teachers, speech therapists, defectologists, physical education instructors, "Special educational services model for children with autism in an inclusive environment."

Master class for music teachers, correctional educators, psychologists of special and general educational institutions with children with special educational needs "Music therapy:  correction and cognitive development approaches"

Master class for teachers, correctional teachers and Ukrainian language teachers of special and general educational institutions with children with intellectual disabilities "Compulsory education of the Ukrainian language of children with intellectual disabilities".

Master class for teachers, correctional teachers, teachers of the Ukrainian language of special and general educational institutions with children with intellectual disabilities "Integrated application of Tan-Söderberg approach in working with children with intellectual disabilities".

Master class for teachers, correctional educators, psychologists, speech therapists, rehabilitation specialists "Rhythmic Technology" as a development tool for children with special educational needs. "

Master class for teachers, correctional educators, psychologists, music instructors, medical physical training, physical rehabilitation instructors «Sense of rhythm development for children with special educational needs".

Master class for teachers, psychologists, social educators of inclusive general educational institutions "Priority approaches to the rehabilitation of children with disabilities and peculiarities in organization and conducting of educational activities involving children with disabilities".

Master class for psychologists, teachers working with children with vision impairments, students of the corresponding specialties, parents and those who want to raise their level of professional competence in this area "Children with visual impairment in school, at home, nearby."

Master class for social pedagogues, practical psychologists, teachers in general educational institutions "Using corrective methods in working with children with peculiarities of psychophysical development and their parents in educational space".

Pedagogical navigation for directors, pre-school teachers and general educational establishments with hearing impaired children "Transformation of an educational institution: how to do it!".

Podium discussion for teachers of general education institutions, representatives of educational departments "New Ukrainian School: Focus on Inclusion".
