In February 2023, with the support of the SRL of Internationalization of Higher Education and in cooperation with Fulbright Program in Ukraine, teachers of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology and the Faculty of Pedagogical Education, namely the Department of Foreign Languages and Methodology, took a training course under the advanced training program (didactic module) "Use of Educational Information and Communication Technologies in Teaching Foreign Languages on the Example of Successful US Practices" at Grinchenko University. The course was developed and presented by Betul Czerkawski, a professor at the University of Arizona (USA), a Fulbright Scholar.
This hands-on course introduced the basic concepts and ideas of digital literacy, instructional design and curriculum development using information and communication technologies (ICT) specific to linguistics and foreign language teachers at the higher education level. Participants explored the relationship between design, pedagogy and technology by creating an e-portfolio for use in the classroom.
Particular attention was paid to teaching intercultural competence, learning experience design (LX), which encompasses research findings and best practices from a variety of disciplines, including learning sciences, neuroscience, interaction design, design-thinking, and instructional design. The course objectives included exploring the implications of learning experience design for teaching and learning foreign languages, discussing intercultural competence and its value for foreign language teaching, creating technology rich course materials for solving learning problems and to meet various learning goals, discussing the latest trends and developments in foreign language instruction and sharing experiences on their use.
