On May 18, 2023, as part of the Festival of Science - 2023, in accordance with the implementation plan of JM Module of the Erasmus+ program "University autonomy in the development of democratic values in higher education: the experience of the EU member states for Ukraine", an international round table on the topic "University autonomy: the balance between government regulation and responsible independence" was held PhD, Assoc.prof. O.Protsenko, who is an associate professor of the Department of Social Pedagogy of the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences, Faculty of Pedagogy, Ignatianum Jesuit University in Krakow (Poland) and a Coordinator of the project, moderated the event.
The round table gathered a wide range of leading specialists in the field of higher education, university autonomy and internationalization, in particular: teachers and students of the third (educational and scientific) level of education of Grinchenko University, representatives of the Jesuit Ignatianum University in Krakow (Poland), Hellenic Open University (Greece), State University of Telecommunications (Kyiv, Ukraine), Mariupol State University (Kyiv, Ukraine), Vadym Hetman Kyiv National University of Economics, Yuri Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University (Chernivtsi, Ukraine), Ivan Franko Lviv National University (Lviv, Ukraine) and others.
During this scientific and practical event, the following tangential issues were considered within the main topic of university autonomy:
• internationalization of higher education as an indicator of university autonomy from the point of view of state and institutional correlation
• normative-legal dimension of non-democratic aspects of state regulation of the higher education system
• development of private universities in Europe
• innovative development of university education on the basis of strategic management and self-governance, etc.
The event took place in the format of exchange of professional experience and opinions, good practices and discussion of ways to preserve the values of European democracy as a basis for the establishment and relentless observance of university autonomy.
