From 05 to 11 November, 2023, Adam Mickiewicz University (Poznan, Poland), within the framework of the Uniwersytet Jutra II project (POWR.03.05.00-00-Z303/18) funded by the European Union, gathered employees of 28 Ukrainian partner universities at the regular summer school on "Social Responsibility of the University". Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University was represented by its academic secretary Liudmyla Anisimova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor.

The organisers prepared a rich programme that included an introduction to the many years of experience at Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) in implementing its "third mission" - ensuring the social responsibility of a higher education institution, which is no less important than providing quality education or conducting relevant research. By the way, UAM is the first Polish higher education institution to be accredited by the international organisation ACEEU as an "engaged" university in 2022, i.e. a university that builds partnerships with the community around it, cares about the environment and the improvement of society, and is concerned with teaching social responsibility.

The presentations covered: the history of the idea, theoretical foundations of the concept of "university of social responsibility", its implementation at UAM (Joanna Barszcz); work with migrants and internally displaced persons (prof. Natalia Bloch); practices and challenges of establishing UAM as an "engaged university" (Anna Schmidt-Fiedler); activities of the Centre for Migration Studies (prof. Izabella Main); public relations of UAM (Vice-Rector prof. Zbyszko Melosik); social project "Digital Wielkopolska region" (prof. Violetta Julkowska); activities of the career office (Małgorzata Kamińska-Kozłowska, Hanna Kramarczyk-Hadzik); cooperation of the university with industrial organisations and the work of the laboratory of applied biotechnology (prof. Jakub Rybka); a unique interdisciplinary educational programme in humanities and social studies (prof. Rafał Dymczyk); history, structure, activities of UAM and joining the EPICUR consortium (Dr Kostiantyn Mazur); the importance of rankings for the implementation of the university strategy and sustainable development goals (Paulina Czapracka); educational support for people with disabilities (Anna Rut). Each report was followed by answers to questions and an active discussion. Certificates of participation were presented by the Vice-Rector prof. Rafał Witkowski.

The project participants also had the opportunity to visit four of the university's nine faculties located in the state-of-the-art Morasko campus in the north of Poznan. Dr Kostiantyn Mazur gave a tour of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. Prof. Michał Rurek spoke about the equipment and piculiarities of the high-tech laboratories of molecular and cell biology at the Faculty of Biology. Katarzyna Jasiewicz-Olędzka accompanied a visit to the Faculty of History.

Grinchenko University, as a municipal higher education institution, has considerable experience in implementing various social, educational and scientific projects aimed at the needs of Kyiv community, but we are sincerely grateful to our colleagues from Adam Mickiewicz University for the opportunity to learn the best practices of the leading university in Poland.
