On April 05, 2024, a solemn meeting of the Academic Council at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University was held on the occasion of the initiation ceremony into an honorary professor of Andreas Schleicher, Director of the Directorate for Education and Skills at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Advisor to the OECD Secretary-General, initiator and leader of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). Students and lecturers of the University were invited to the meeting.
The meeting began with commemoration of memory of all those who died in russia's war against Ukraine.
Head of the University Academic Council Nataliia Vinnikova, Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Science in Philology, Professor, informed that on March 26, 2024 (Protocol No. 3), at the request of University administration, the Academic Council decided to initiate Andreas Schleicher as an honorary professor of the University for his significant personal contribution to the development of international educational policy and cooperation between Ukraine and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in the field of international PISA research, expert support for the New Ukrainian School reform, improvement of approaches to the professional development of teachers, dissemination of best practices for improving the quality of education and access to it.
First Vice-Rector Liliia Hrynevych, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor, presented a biographical note on Andreas Schleicher, emphasizing his significant contribution to the development of education, his compassion to the fate of our country - this is the fourth time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion that Mr. Andreas has come to Ukraine.
In honor of the professor, Andreas Schleicher, the hymn "Gaudeamus" was performed by students of the Faculty of Music and Choreography, after which Andreas Schleicher gave a lecture on "Educating for tomorrow's world", which provoked a lively discussion among the audience.
Head of the Academic Council Nataliia Vinnikova emphasized, that it was a great honor for the University to replenish the ranks of honorary professors with a reputable professional of the international level - Andreas Shleicher, and expressed hope for further cooperation. In memory of this event, students and lecturers of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, with the personal participation of Dean of the Faculty Ostap Kovalchuk, PhD in Art Studies, Associate Professor, prepared a gift - a ceramic plate made of clay extracted from a quarry in Sloviansk, Donetsk region.
