Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University
On October 09, 2024, on the occasion of the national Day of Korean Writing, a presentation of Korean traditional clothing “hanbok” was held for the first time in Ukraine at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University with the participation of representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine and the Korea Education Center.
To mark the national holiday and the presentation at Grinchenko University, Acting Rector of the University Oleksandr Turuntsev and Consul of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine Mr. Jung Kyung-Bae addressed the participants with greetings.
Mr. Jeong Chang Yun, Director of the Korea Education Center in Ukraine, introduced the history and tradition of Korean hanbok dress to the participants of the event.
The presentation of the show of traditional hanbok clothing began with an improvisation on the theme of the Korean folk song “Arirang” performed by Timur Poliansky, Honored Artist of Ukraine, Professor of the Department of Instrumental and Performing Arts at the Faculty of Musical Arts and Choreography of Grinchenko University.
Then, the honoured guests and participants of the presentation were presented the author's hanboks with elements of Ukrainian embroidery “Imperial Hanbok” by K-Fun Entertainment and ARMY BTS UA, which demonstrated the result of hard work and intertwining of Ukrainian and Korean cultures.
The guests of the event were also shown a performance of traditional hanboks with the participation of students of the educational program “Language and Literature (Korean)” of Grinchenko University, which were kindly provided by the Korean Cultural Center and All-Ukrainian Association of Koreans.
At the end of the presentation, the participants had the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Korean drum dance.
After the event, Acting Rector of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University Oleksandr Turuntsev, Head of Academic Council, Vice-Rector for Research Nataliia Vinnikova, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Languages Ivan Semenist and Head of the Centre for Korean Studies Kan Den Sik held a working meeting with Consul of the Republic of Korea Mr. Jung Kyung-Bae and Director of Korea Education Center Mr. Jeong Chang Yun. During this meeting they discussed the opportunities of cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine and the Korea Education Center and agreed on the implementation of a number of joint initiatives and activities.
