On 29 May 2025, the Academic Council of the University approved an interim report on the results of the implementation of the research theme of Volodymyr Buriachok Department of Information and Cyber Security at the Faculty of Information Technology and Mathematics “Methods and models for ensuring cybersecurity of information processing systems and functional security of software and hardware complexes for critical infrastructure management’ (registration number: 0122U200483; deadline: June 2022 - June 2027). The results of the research were presented by the head of the research theme Nataliia Korshun, Professor at Volodymyr Buriachok Department of Information and Cyber Security, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.
The research is carried out in four main areas:
- “Formation of enterprise information security policies based on the Zero Trust methodology” - focuses on the development of dynamic context-based access control policies, methods of identifying, assessing and managing risks in the Zero Trust environment, and technical aspects of Zero Trust implementation.
- “Natural Language Processing for information security incident monitoring and response systems” focuses on developing methods for using NLP to detect cyber threats in unstructured sources, integrating NLP into monitoring systems, and modelling attack scenarios based on textual descriptions.
- “Ensuring the protection of information in the Internet of Things networks” - includes substantiation and creation of models of threats and risks in IoT environments, architecture of secure IoT systems, creation of cryptographic mechanisms for IoT devices, protection of critical IoT infrastructure.
- “Classical, quantum and post-quantum cryptography” - provides improvement and optimisation of classical algorithms, analysis of quantum cryptographic protocols, development and validation of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms.
Each of these areas is aimed at solving current problems and has significant potential for practical application.
During the period of implementation of the research theme, the following were published: 128 scientific articles, of which 64 were published in scientific journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases; the results of the research were tested at international and national scientific and practical conferences.
The practical significance of the research results is confirmed by active cooperation with scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, business structures, as well as enterprises and institutions in the field of cybersecurity. The cooperation is carried out in the format of regular consultations, participation in joint scientific and practical seminars, applied research aimed at solving urgent problems and implementing the results in cybersecurity practice.
The results of the research have been implemented at the Institute of Software Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
As part of the implementation of the department's research theme, qualification and dissertation works of applicants for the second (master's) and third (educational and scientific) levels of higher education have been completed and are being completed.
The results of the scientific research are implemented in the educational process of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University through: annual updating of the curricula of academic disciplines, development of educational components for new editions of the first (bachelor's) level educational and professional programmes “Security of Information and Communication Systems”, “Computer Engineering”, second (master's) level educational and professional programme “Security of Information and Communication Systems” and third (educational and scientific) level “Information Security of the State”.
