On 29 May 2025, the Academic Council at Grinchenko University approved a report on the research results “Assessment of the problems and needs of adolescents living with HIV”, commissioned by the NGO “Youth Organisation “Teenagers of Ukraine”.
The results of the research were presented by Vadym Liutyi, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work at the Faculty of Psychology, Social Work and Special Education.
The study was carried out by a research team consisting of academic staff of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work at the Faculty of Psychology, Social Work and Special Education Vadym Liutyi, Tetiana Liakh, Svitlana Sapiga, Tetiana Spirina. The research characterised the types of adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) of representatives (parents, guardians) of children living with HIV, revealed the factors of parental refusal to provide ART to their child and the barriers that prevent professionals from responding to such situations and establishing interdisciplinary and intersectoral cooperation; identified the needs of adolescents living with HIV and their representatives related to the development of adherence to ART, socialisation of children and social integration of their families. The researchers substantiated the content, conditions and forms of implementation of the Programme for building adherence to ART in children living with HIV and their parents; social service of support for families raising a child living with HIV; developed and presented to the community of specialists a Roadmap for responding to parental refusal to provide ART to an HIV-positive child; prepared for testing the standard of social service “Social support for families raising a child living with HIV”.
The results of the research were tested at the International Scientific Conference “Modern Theory and Practice of Social Work in Ukraine and Abroad” (Lviv, 14-15 November 2024), at the round table “Parental Responsibility” (Kyiv, 30 December 2024).
