From 2 February to 1 June 2026, Olha Bichieva, a first-year student of the Educational and Professional Programme 2.I10.00.03 “Monitoring and Evaluation of Social Programmes” in the specialty I10 “Social Work and Counselling” at the second (Master’s) level of higher education of the Faculty of Psychology, Social Work and Special Education, participated in the international Erasmus+ academic mobility programme at the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic).

The mobility programme became an important stage in the student’s professional and personal development. Studying in an international academic environment provided an opportunity to become acquainted with modern European approaches to social work, deepen knowledge of the organisation of social services in Czech Republic, and master statistical analysis methods used in social and educational research. Particular attention during the studies was paid to issues of critical social work, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the development of professional competencies in an international context.

An important component of the educational process was its practical dimension. In particular, the student participated in a field visit to the Kafira Centre, which specializes in supporting people with visual impairments and providing them with social services. This experience made it possible to gain insight into the functioning of social institutions in Czech Republic and contemporary practices of supporting vulnerable population groups.

Participation in the Erasmus+ programme contributed not only to academic growth but also to active intercultural exchange. Studying alongside students from different countries around the world provided an opportunity to expand professional networks, improve communication skills, and gain valuable experience of interaction in a multicultural environment.

An integral part of the mobility experience was familiarisation with the historical and cultural heritage of Czech Republic, visits to its cities, and travel to other European countries. This contributed to broadening perspectives, developing intercultural competence, and shaping new professional and personal aspirations.

Sharing her impressions of the programme, Olha Bichieva noted: “Participating in the academic mobility programme was an extremely positive and unforgettable experience. The educational process stood out for its innovative teaching approaches, the openness of the academic community, and its strong practical orientation. The opportunity to combine intensive studies with exploring a new culture, travelling  and daily communication in a multicultural environment became not only an important stage of my professional development but also a powerful source of personal growth and inspiration.”

We extend our best wishes to Olha Bichieva on the successful completion of the academic mobility programme and wish her continued professional achievements, new international projects, and the successful application of the knowledge and competencies she has acquired.
