On September 27, 2013 the Institute of Human Sciences of Borys Grinchenko University was honored to host the Assistant Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Staff Psychologist at Rhode Island Hospital and the Director of the Rhode Island Family Court, Mental Health Clinic, Dr. Marina Tolou-Shams with the open lecture "Programs on the Prevention of Risky Behavior for the Juveniles in the Juvenile Justice System of the USA".

Researchers, employees and students of our University interested in social work had an opportunity to participate in the open lecture. Professor Tolou-Shams gave the crime statistics of the juveniles in the USA. According to it more than half of million crimes were registered during the last decade and every tenth crime was the murder. Participants were impressed by the comparative characteristic of the juvenile prisoners in the other countries where the USA was on the first place. Future social workers asked a lot of questions during the lecture which made it more interesting and informative.
