21st of March 2014 is a fateful day for the whole Ukraine. EU leaders have signed the political provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine at the meeting in the European Council in Brussels.

At the occasion of the signing ceremony of the political provisions of the Association Agreement Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, made a statement: "This gesture symbolizes the importance that both sides attach to this relationship, and our joint will to take it further. It recognizes the aspirations of the people of Ukraine to live in a country governed by values, by democracy and the rule of law, where all citizens have a stake in national prosperity".

This is just the first step towards the stability in our country and confirmation of European values in our society.

This important event could not pass without our attention and our Rector, Vice-rectors, University academics and students have decided to hold the ceremony of hoisting the EU flag.

At the beginning of the ceremony Viktor Ogneviuk, Rector of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, has pointed out: "Of course, signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union is only the judicial fact. We, Ukrainians, will have to do a lot for building a legal country with nomocracy, powerful economy and capable army.
I am thankful to everyone, who was fighting for our freedom and rights from the first days of Euromaidan. I am thankful to those, who has supported us and we had an opportunity to declare our University position on the 1st of December. I am thankful to the members of the University Rectorate who were not afraid to protest strongly against the arbitrariness of the authorities on the 30th of December. We were together on these days.
First of all, we must remember the Heaven hundred and thousands of people who were maimed in this struggle. But we need to be inspired by the spirit of victory and understand that everyday work will make us really European country. Glory to Ukraine!"

University students, who were the participants of the Euromaidan from its first days, carried the flag of the EU through the students' corridor to the flagpole under the anthem of the European Union. Students Parliament, members of the rectorate and all the representatives of the University departments took part in the ceremony.

Anastasiia Grygoruk, President of a Students Parliament, in her speech has mentioned: "We - friends, students and academics went all together for our ideas, views and future. Our University students' community has claimed its desire to go in the direction of euro integration although this way was full of losses, pain and grief we have reached our cherished stars. These 12 stars symbolize our Mother God guardian and I am sure that our country will find its place under these stars. They symbolize well-fair and will protect our country from all the evil and unfairness. We understand that Ukraine will have to overcome a lot, but with the help of our new partners we will do that. Lets celebrate this moment and wish our country to continue its development nin the right direction of goodness, justice and wealth".

From this day the flag of EU will be waving near the Ukrainian, Kyiv city and University flags.
