In the frame of the International TEMPUS Project DesIRE "Development of Embedded System Courses with implementation of Innovative Virtual approaches for integration of Research, Education and Production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia", 544091-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University participated in the training for all project partners.

Our academics had trainings in the Ilmenau University of Technology in the frame of the Spring School in Ilmenau. Its aim was to show the use of basic hardware and software embedded systems and virtual laboratories, as well as the possibility of their implementation and usage in the educational process in higher and secondary educational institutions.

Scientists from the higher educational institutions from Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Belgium participated in the trainings and took an active part in the discussions.
Ilmenau University of Technology is the second largest University in Thuringia with about 7,000 students and an emphasis on mathematics, physics, informatics, several engineering disciplines and media studies. Its precursor was founded in 1894 and developed into a university in 1992. Since 1990, many research institutes have been established in the area around the university making Ilmenau an important hub of technological research. It has five academic departments (faculties):
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
The Faculty of Computer Science and Automation
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science
The Faculty of Economics Sciences

Spring School participants were trained to use the hardware and software of embedded systems, namely electronic circuit boards with appropriate sensors and actuators, electro-mechanical physical systems, Arduinoshields, software packages QuartusII, Arduino, AtmelStudio. Also they had virtual and remote experiments with the help of online laboratories GOLDi (GridofonlinelabdevicesIlmenau).

While staying at the Technical University of Ilmenau academics visited the modern innovative engineering and scientific research labs and institutes of the University: Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cave Automatic Virtual Reality Center, kvadrokopter lab, the experimental setup for the study of turbulent convection air (Barrel of Ilmenau), Technology Control Lab (Control Engineering Group), AST Fraunhofer Institute Ilmenau, Neuroinformatics and Cognitive Robotics Lab.

Our University academics visited a well known X-FAB (Erfurt, Germany). X-FAB is the world's largest analog/mixed-signal foundry group manufacturing silicon wafers for mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs). Its marketing network and client base span the Americas, Europe and Asia, offering manufacturing capacity of approximately 864,000 200mm-equivalent wafers per year. The largest specialty fab group, X-FAB is unlike typical foundry services because of its specialized expertise in advanced analog and mixed-signal process technologies. More detailed information you find on http://www.xfab.com/about-x-fab

All the participants of the Spring School were given the Certificates of Attendance.
