On June 21, 2018, the International Symposium "Italian-Ukrainian Contrastive Studies: Linguistics, Literary Studies, Translation" was held at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. It was organized with the assistance and support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine.
The symposium was attended by leading Italian Ukrainianists, Ukrainian researchers of the Italian language and literature, translators.
The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics, Maxym Strikha noted in his welcoming speech to the participants of the event that the symposium was the pillar for the construction of awareness of Italian elite in history, culture and scientific achievements of Ukraine.
The welcoming speech to the participants of the honorable scientific meeting was also delivered by the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine Anna Pastore.
Ukrainian scientists presented their research works in Romance philology and comparative-typological linguistics: Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Head of the Comparative-Historical and Comparable Linguistics Sector at O. O. Potebnya Institute of Linguistics, NAS of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ponomarenko; Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation from Romance Languages, Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Alexander Cherednichenko; Director of the Center for Italian Studies, lecturer of the Department of Theory and Practice of Romance Translation of the Institute of Philology of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Hanna Aheeva.
The participants of the symposium were interested in the plenary and poster presentations of the members of the Department of Romance Philology and Comparative-Typological Linguistics at the Institute of Philology of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University: Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department Salvator Del Gaudio; Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Head of the Department, Rusudan Makhachashvili; associate professor of the Department, Candidate of Sciences in Philology Julia Shtaltovna, senior lecturer of the Department Oksana Konoval, PhD students Valeria Babenko, Yana Yarova and Anastasia Moskalenko.
Constructive discussions on modern problems of language hybridization, language-cultural integration, language policy and lexicographic practices in the digital age, teaching methods of Ukrainian as a foreign language have shown the prospects for the development of scientific cooperation between Italian and Ukrainian scholars, the need to develop joint scientific projects and training programs.
