On January 20, 2018 the European Wergeland Centre (Oslo, Norway) started its new international pilot project called "Development of Civil and Social Competences in the Teacher Training System in Ukraine". It is aimed at the future elementary school teachers and their civil and social competences integration into the school curricula. The project is being implemented in cooperation with Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and the Center for Educational Monitoring.
During the four-day training (January 21-24, 2018) teams of three leading higher education institutions took part in the training sessions: Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, National Pedagogical Dragomanov University and Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University. Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University is represented with the faculty staff of the Pedagogical Institute who joined the project.
The training program comprised the elaboration of the framework documents by the Council of Europe as The Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education, the acquaintance with the resources by the Council of Europe, aimed at the development of civil and social competences.
The teams discussed the competence models for the culture of democracy and technologies which develop these competences in future teachers, as well as the ways to gain experience in applying interactive methods aimed at developing students' social and civic competences.
Team of international trainers and experts consisted of Mazena Rafalska (Poland), the expert of the Council of Europe and European Wergeland Centre of Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights; Christina Chushak (Ukraine), a senior researcher at the Institute of Ukrainian Studies named after Kripyakevich of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the program coordinator at European Wergeland Centre "Democratic School: Supporting Educational Reforms in Ukraine in 2018-2021".

The Institute of Philology hosted a presentation of the first bilingual edition of Paraguayan poetry by Juan Manuel Marcos "Poemas y canciones" translated by students and teachers of Romance Philology and Typology the Department in collaboration with the University of Del Norte, Paraguay.
